Professional Leadership and Service Certificate

* This certificate is available to anyone who has served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for at least 9 months and received an honorable release.

Degree

Certificate (Federal aid eligible if certificate is combined with Associate of Science degree, Associate of Applied Science degree, or Bachelor of Applied Science degree. Not eligible for federal aid as a stand-alone certificate.)

Professional Leadership and Service Certificate Overview

This certificate provides a structured series of activities where students will analyze their prior leadership and missionary service experience in terms of the knowledge, skills, and abilities. Students will demonstrate prior learning by developing a portfolio for the purpose of petitioning academic credit for prior learning obtained outside of the classroom at Ensign College. 

With successful completion of the Professional Leadership course and submission of the Professional Leadership and Service Portfolio, students can earn eight additional elective credits that can be applied towards their graduation from Ensign College.  

Program Outcomes

  1. Validate marketable skills developed as a missionary
  2. Communicate marketable skills to improve employment opportunities
  3. Develop additional service and leadership skills by building on skills developed as a missionary

Required Courses and Sequence

BUS 480 Professional Leadership and Service Portfolio, 1 credit – leads to 8 credits of prior learning
SS 160 Leadership and Human Behavior, 3 credits
BUS 402 Organizational Behavior in a Global Context, 3 credits

Total Credit Hours: 15

Graduation Requirements

1. Grade of C- or better in all program-specific courses is required.
2. Certificate grade-point average of 2.0 or higher.
