HP 170 Introduction to Pharmacology

In this course, students will study the interactive properties of medicine on the human body in their training to become health care professionals. The principles of pharmacology as they relate to the medical assisting profession are at the core of this course. Students will master the correlation of drug therapy and pathophysiologic conditions, patient education regarding medication, and researching drugs using a drug reference. This course includes the use, action, side effects, contraindications, and routes of administration of drugs most commonly administered in the medical office. It also includes familiarization with the most commonly prescribed drugs, their dosages, how to figure dosages correctly, and drug preparation.

HP 140 and LS 265 with a C- or higher, (may be taken concurrently with HP 210/HP 212). Complete pre-program requirements and vaccinations.
